Trekking in Ladakh is a rewarding experience and made tough mostly due to its high average altitude. The Stok Kangri trek is one of the most beautiful in Ladakh. The trek to Stok Kangri is a fantastic opportunity to visit numerous monasteries and picturesque Ladakh villages on little-used routes. Leh, the capital city and administrative capital of the Ladakh district offers ancient monasteries, colorful markets, abandoned royal palace and interesting Hindu, Buddhist and Islam encounters. The Gompas (monasteries) lie along the ancient trading routes traversing Tibet and Ladakh. The routes across Ladakh region also bring magnificent views over Zanskar Mountains and across the Karakoram snow capped peaks with fantastic Tibet panorama in the distance.
Stok Kangri is considered to be a suitable 'starter expedition' for fit trekkers. It is an excellent first Himalayan peak and no previous experience of high altitude or mountaineering is required.
